Cancer in Young Adults (Teens and Early 20s)
CancerIndex Home - Guide to Internet Resources for Cancer Home> Young Adults

What do we mean by "young adults" ? Depending on where you live, the ages 16, 18 and 21 are often given special cultural and legal meaning. However, there is no clear cut age where childhood ends and adulthood begins. Traditionally, many specialist children's cancer centres have treated patients up to age 16 years. Most epidemiological studies report childhood cancers for ages 0-14. Furthermore, because cancer is more common in older adults many oncologists label anyone diagnosed with cancer under 45 as "young". Lets face it, as we get older we are constantly changing our idea of what "young" and "old" are !
