Linkage to Xq27-28 was detected in a combined study of 360 prostate cancer families from North America, Finland and Sweden (Xu, 1998). Heterogeneity estimates from this study suggested that the HPCX locus accounts for approximately 16% of hereditary prostate cancers. A subsequent study of 153 families (Lange, 2000) found supporting evidence a prostate cancer susceptibility gene at Xq27-28, though results were not statistically significant.
