(Australia) The NCCI was launched in 1997 advise on cancer control, it is a partnership of the Australian Cancer Society and the Commonwealth. The site includes information on specific projects, publications, links etc.

Score Against Colon Cancer
(USA) A site by the Eric Davis Foundation and other partners. The site includes information about screening and prevention, FAQs, colon cancer facts, diagrams, and "Step up to the Plate" to test your knowledge of colon cancer.

Sociedad Espanola de Enfermeria Oncologica
(Spain) a non-profit organisation. The web site is in Spanish language and includes oncology nursing information and links.

Roche HER2 Website
(Hoffmann-La Roche Ltd) an educational site about the HER2 gene with separate areas for patients and medical professionals (requires free registration); includes info about testing, prognosis, educational resources. Roche market a HER2 targeted drug.

Cancer Awareness In Scotland
(Scotland, UK) a voluntary organisation promoting cancer prevention strategies. The site includes details of events, hints on prevention, links etc. Scottish Charity no. SC025631

Scottish Association of Prostate Cancer Support Groups
(Scotland, UK) the association was founded by prostate cancer patients and their families in April 1999 to a network of regional support groups and raise awareness of prostate cancer. Registered Scottish charity No.029158.

(UK) a concert in tribute to of one of the orchestra members, Jamie Gregory, who sadly died from leukaemia last year. Raising money for the Leukaemia Research Fund

Rhode Island Cancer Council, Inc
(USA) aims to advocate and help Rhode Island residents find cancer facilities, oncologists, support groups, and reliable information. Resources are listed by county and there is a Cancer Forum message board.

Atlas of Cancer Mortality in the United States, 1950-1994
(National Cancer Institute, USA) an online book contains databases, text, and graphics files showing the geographic patterns of cancer death rates. Maps of different cancer types by county and state economic area (SEA), customizable maps etc.

Molecular Biology of Lung Cancer
A resource for researchers. A recently reported study indicates that people with a common polymorphism of the GSTM1 gene may be more suseptible to developing lung cancer when exposed to environmental tabacco smoke.

BRCAPRO - software for calculating risk of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer

Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and Cervical Cancer
Recent results from a large Swedish study indicate that women with smear tests which are HPV DNA-positive (ie. contain genetic material from the virus) are at increased risk of developing invasive cervical cancer in the future.

National Children's Cancer Society
(USA) a non-profit organization founded in 1987. The web site includes details of NCCS activities including providing families with financial and in-kind assistance, advocacy, support services, education, prevention, and international programs.

Cancer Black Care
(UK) a charity which aims to address the cultural and emotional needs of black people affected by cancer. CBC was founded in 1995 by Isaac Dwebden who lost his brother to prostate cancer. The site includes details of services, contact lists etc.

Researcher's Topics in this guide:
Virtual Colonoscopy (recent research has compared this non-invasive technique to normal colonoscopy) and Single nucleotide polymorphisms (the "SNP Consortium" has been developed to investigate these subtle variations in our genes and how they relate to disease).

British Psychosocial Oncology Society
(UK) established in 1984 to promote knowledge of the psychological and social aspects of cancer amongst professionals working with people with cancer. The web site includes details of the Society, journal, newsletter, events etc.

CANCER-FERTILITY
(ACOR) unmoderated discussion list for cancer survivors, parents, friends, researchers, and physicians to discuss ertility/infertility issues associated with cancer and its treatment.

Sarcoma.Net
An educational site for sarcoma patients including sarcoma facts, information about clinical trials and links. The site is by George Demetri, MD a sarcoma specialist at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Victorian Medical Oncology Trainees' Group
(Australia) a non-profit organisation incorporated in 1999 to provide education resources for medical oncology trainees in Victoria. The site includes details of the Journal Club, key papers and oncology links.

Cancer Incidence and Survival among Children and Adolescents
(USA) a detailed report from the SEER Program, 1975-1995, including disease specific chapters in PDF format

Sociedad Espanola de Enfermeria Oncologica
(Spain) a non-profit organisation. The web site is in Spanish language and includes oncology nursing information and links.

Cancer Supportive Care Programs
The site contains 12 online chapters with information and programs for different aspects of supportive care - based on the book, Cancer Supportive Care by EH. Rosenbaum, MD and IR Rosenbaum, MA (1998).

(H. DeGroot MD, University of Massachusetts) an educational website about bone tumors with sections for patients and health professionals. Includes treatment summaries and an online atlas of bone tumours with radiology and pathology images.

Madison Research Group
(USA) a private corporation devoted to the study of osteosarcoma, particularly molecular biology. The web site includes information about treatment, incidence, molecular biology and glossary.

King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Centre
(Saudi Arabia) the Department of Oncology was founded in 1982 and is the largest cancer centres in the Gulf Region treating over 2,000 new patients each year. The site includes details of sections, services, research etc.

Lung Cancer Online
(USA) By Karen Parles who was diagnosed with lung cancer at 39 yrs of age. The site includes sections on finding the best care, services and support, patient information, organisations and links.

Cancerlinks Search Website
A directory of links to information about many types of cancer and related treatment and psychosocial topics. The site was created by Alexandra Andrews and went online in December 1998.

Lung Cancer Awareness Campaign
(USA) a campaign co-sponsored by 4 large cancer organisations to promote lung cancer awareness. The site has patient information, facts about tobacco use and cancer, an awareness survey and women's lung cancer issues.

Miracle House - NY
(USA) a non-profit organization, founded in 1990, which provides accommodation and support to family and friends travelling to visit people with cancer and AIDS who are being treated in New York.

(Ireland) Funded in 1994 to provide support for Bone Marrow Transplant patients and their families. The web site includes information, links and the groups Newsletter.

US TOO International, Inc.
An independent network of support groups for men with prostate cancer and their families, founded in 1990. The site includes listings of support groups, medical information, events etc with input from a Medical Advisory Board.

Midwest Myeloma Exchange and Email List
A myeloma organization located in and serving the major medical centers in the midwestern United States, linking patients, caregivers, and medical professionals throughout the world through a free myeloma email discussion group.

Colon Cancer Risk Index
(Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention, USA) An interactive site which allows users to assess their risk for colon cancer and offers personalized tips for lowering it. This is one of the most common cancers - it is one of the most preventable.

Di-My Cancer Story
This is the home page of Diane who has experienced both Hodgkin's disease and then breast cancer, The site includes details of the cancers and treatments received together with secondary issues related to radiation therapy.

Program in Evidence-Based Care - Cancer Care Ontario Practice Guidelines Initiative
(Cancer Care Ontario/ Ontario Ministry of Health, Canada) current versions of the evidence-based clinical oncology practice guidelines produced by the Disease Site Groups of the PEBC. Includes detailed referenced guidelines and evidence summaries.

Canadian Cancer Society, Newfoundland and Labrador Division
(Canada) the web site has local information regarding the CCS and its programs and services across Newfoundland and Labrador including 28 local units. There are details of events, membership, newsletter and public education.

Electronic Journal of Oncology
Elec. J. Oncol. is an exclusively electronic peer-reviewed journal with an international Editorial Board (English language) . The web site allows free access to abstracts, complete original publications and reviews. Comments can be submitted by Email.

Cancer Centre for the Southern Interior
(British Columbia, Canada) the centre serves the Central, Southern and South-Eastern regions of BC and is part of the BC Cancer Agency. The web site includes patient information, details of services, FAQs, information for providers etc.

The Valerie Fund / Valerie Children's Centers
(New Jersy, USA) a non-profit organisation founded by parents in 1976. The Fund has raised over 8 million dollars to providing comprehensive health care for children with cancer and blood disorders by supporting a network of 5 hospitals in New Jersy.

Canadian Cancer Society - Alberta/Northwest Territories Division
(Canada) The CCS provide patient support services, education, advocacy and fund research. The Alberta/NWT web site includes information about specific cancers, CCS, research, cancer statistics, regional CCS events, donations etc.

ThyCa: The Thyroid Cancer Survivors’ Association
A non-profit organisation founded in 1995 developing programs to link survivors and healthcare professionals around the world. The web site includes news for survivors about online chats, conference, mailing lists and local support groups.

Division of Epidemiology - The German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ)
(Germany) a government organisation based in Heidelberg. The Division of Epidemiology web site includes details of research programmes, a cancer atlas, staff, contact information, conferences etc. German and English language.

Medical Pharmacology Teaching Units

Bone Cancer FAQ

Tumour Registry of Valencia - Registro de tumores de Valencia
(Spain) an adult tumour registry and a childhood cancer registry for the Valencia province. The site includes detailed incidence and survival data for children (1983-95) and adults (1990-94), publications and links. Spanish langauge.

Malta National Cancer Registry
(Malta) The registry has been collecting full national cancer data from 1991and covers a population of about 378,000 with around 1,200 new cancer cases per year. It is part of the government's Department of Health.

Desmoplasic Small Round Cell Tumour (DSRCT)
(UK) pages by the partner of a young man diagnosed with DSRCT in 1987. The site includes personal treatment updates, information about the disease, treatment info, medical reports, histology slides, links etc.

Breast and Cervical Cancer Control Program - Texas

(Bristol, UK) The centre is part of the Frenchay Healthcare NHS Trust. This web site includes information for patients and referring doctors; there are on-line leaflets, details of studies / protocols, self-examination etc.

Avon's Breast Cancer Awareness Crusade

European Registry Of Hereditary Pancreatitis And Familial Pancreatic Cancer
(EUROPAC) The registry is co-ordinated by the University of Liverpool and aims to establish the number of families in Europe with Familial Pancreatic Cancer, investigate possible causative gene mutations,and develop screening techniques.

Children's Hospital of Los Angeles
(California, USA) CHLA was founded in 1901 and is a non-profit 330 bed hospital. The page about the Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Diseases includes details about the Center, programs, services, and staff. The Center also incororates the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Tumor Registry which was established in 1968 and now has nearly 3,500 children registered.

Usry's home page - photographs and journal of Vutheary's experience with bone cancer
(USA) Usry is an artist and has dedicated much of her web site to her friend Vutheary who is aged 18 and has bone cancer. Each page contains a photograph and text journaling aspects of Vutheary's treatment with chemotherapy.

Atlas of Genetics and Cytogenetics in Oncology and Haematology
(Poitiers University, France) a collaborative site made for and by cytogeneticists, molecular biologists, oncologists etc. Databases of genes, chromosome abnormalities, disease types, and cancer prone conditions. English and French language.

Epping Breast Unit - St. Margaret's Hospital
(UK) The unit was established in 1982 and is part of the Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS. The web site includes details of the unit, screening, patient information, publications, research, and links.

Beyond the Road's End
A book by the wife of a cancer patient: telling the story of her husband's 5 month battle with a brain tumour, including treatments, support, links, death and dying, and other issues. The book can be viewed online or downloaded free (PDF). This is a wonderful book and has good online graphics, it is well structured with 32 brief chapters.

Dr. Koop's Community - Cancer Center
(USA) This interactive site contains information on specific cancers which are integrated with a detailed medical encyclopaedia, with images, diagrams and reference info. There are also integrated Reuters news items, chat and message board facilities.

Cancer 411
(California, USA) A site by The Rory Foundation, a non-profit organisation aimning to provide a comprehensive website library. The site includes information/links about specific cancers and Rory Foundation newsletter.

HealthPromis - National Health Promotion Database for England.

National Radiological Protection Board
(UK) The NRPB is a government body formed in 1970 to research and protect against radiation hazards. This site includes FAQs (medical use of radiation, epidemiology, radon, UV radiation), press releases, publications, news, etc.

The Alliance of Genetic Support Groups
(USA) A non-profit organisation founded in 1986;a national coalition of consumers, professionals and genetic support groups. The site includes details of AGSG, a Directory of Genetic Organisations, resources, on-line newsletter, publications etc.

The Lymphoma Association

Ottawa Regional Cancer Centre

American College of Radiation Oncology
(USA) ACRO was founded in 1989 and aims to promote the education and science of radiation oncology, improve services, study socioeconomic aspects, promote professional education etc. The site includes details of membership, programs, publications etc

Ochsner Cancer Center
(New Orleans, USA) The center treats over 2,000 patients a year from the Gulf South USA, Central and South America. The web site includes details about the center, oncology /diagnostic services, and information about cancer, treatments, and support.

The Neuroblastoma Society

Large Granular Lymphocyte Leukemia Registry
(USA) a national registry located at the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. The registry aims to assist with the diagnosis of LGL leukemia, collect/analyze information on patients with LGL leukemia, and suggest available clinical trials for patients.

Home Care Guide: Caring for Young Persons with Cancer at Home
(Pennsylvania State University Children's Hospital) This site provides a guide to developing and following home care plans for supporing a child with cancer at home. There are chapters on a wide range of topics including; infections, loss of appetite, constipation, skin problems, hair loss, promoting independence, helping brothers and sisters cope, and other aspects. Pediatric Oncology Resource Center
(USA) This site hosted by the Association of Cancer Online Resources, it has been produced by a group of parents of children with cancer. The site includes sections on specific diseases, treatments and procedures, family help, online support groups.
