      The Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) Family

Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is one of the most frequently used serum tumour markers for carcinoma, particularly in colorectal cancer. It is useful in the diagnosis and monitoring of cancer, however, specificity for CEA assays is not absolute. Therefore, it is often used in conjunction with tests for other markers. There are are infact a number of genes and pseudogenes composing a CEA family which are subdivided into CEACAM and PSG (pregnancy-specific glycoprotein) genes.
